History of Lumbini Academy

Lumbini Academy, founded by Dr. Thant Lwin Maung (pen-name Ko Tar) and his friend Dr.Tin Hlaing (pen-name Phoe Hlaing), was established in 2006 to meet the need of a multi-faceted intelligence development of students in Myanmar. It models Bhavan Indian International School (BIIS) in Singapore for its modest tuition, and most importantly, its excellence in educating students, while stressing the importance of tradition, language, history, and culture. Hence, Lumbini aims to provide world-class education in dual language (both Burmese and English) at affordable cost. When Dr. Thant Lwin Maung first conceived the idea of founding Lumbini Academy, both he and Dr.Tin Hlaing had a chance to visit Bhavan Indian International School (BIIS) in Singapore and were impressed by its academically rigorous curriculum and love for culture, history, language and tradition. Its mother organization had been graced by luminous alumni such as Mahatama Gandhi, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi and so on. BIIS students consists of many nationalities, Singaporeans of various ethnics origins, Koreans, Germans, Australians and many others, and these students got accepted to top universities in US, UK, Singapore and India. Learning from this exemplary school, Lumbini Academy nurtures students to grow up into excellent lifelong learners, and adaptable world citizens, with polished Myanmar identity.
